The Electronic Cigarette Story – Part 3 – The Plot Thickens

Well Spring is just around the corner and surprise, surprise, the success and controversy surrounding the electronic cigarette (as written about in Part 2 of this series of articles) rumbles on and on.

As an observer it is fascinating to see so much staunch opposition to a product that has the potential to rid the world of smoking related cancers! No its not yet been tested or approved by the world health organisations, no there is not yet a piece of paper that declares the electronic cigaretteSafe” but surely something with this much promise should be being embraced by one and all and the powers that be should be frantically busy with the testing so the world at large can either welcome a hero or dismiss another false dawn.

Meanwhile, Joe Public continues to flock towards the electronic cigarette like penguins to an iceberg. As awareness of the product grows, more and more people are willing and eager to give it a try. What does this show? Personally I think it proves just how desperate most smokers are to quit smoking.

I don’t really think the fact that an electronic cigarette looks remarkably like a real cigarette has anything other than an initial “wow” factor. Ill health and a despondency with some of the other “quit smoking” products available, combined with a real urgency to stop smoking is lighting the way for these e cigs.

Let’s have another look at some of the claims made by the electronic cigarette companies:

There are more claimed benefits than those mentioned above but it’s clear looking at some of these why the Electronic Cigarette is proving to be such an attractive proposition for smokers. Also the ways these items are packaged and distributed by some companies make it easy for non smokers to make purchases as gifts for smoking relatives and friends.

Ultimately until there is some official feedback and decisions made by the health organisations other then mere speculation, then it’s very much a case of making personal decisions regarding the Electronic Cigarette but one thing is for sure we are going to hear a lot more about them yet.

Another month passes and the jostling continues in the electronic cigarette world. Part 3 in this series of articles keeps a watchful eye on the unfolding drama.

The Advent of the E-Cigarette Part 1

Smokers take heed: there is a brighter future looming on the horizon, all thanks to the remarkable advances in technology which grace our society with alarming and enticing rapidity. The lot of the smoker has increasingly become that of the social pariah over recent years, as more and more restrictions have been placed on smoking in public areas and independent organizations of various sorts have come out of the woodwork to champion that good health of non-smokers-especially the young. These reactions to smoking were only to be expected in a world where the negative effects of smoking tobacco have become more and more apparent, leaving smokers less and less wiggle room or arguments with which to defend themselves or their habits. In the face of this new dynamic, smokers have been waiting for some sort of Godsend to get them out of this pinch…and it seems that it has finally arrived.
What smoker wouldn’t be tempted by the idea of a product that can pack the nicotine dose that they are craving and even sate the oral fixation that many smokers have, all whilst avoiding any sort of offense or injury to any person standing or sitting nearby (no matter how close!)? And how about, on Top of all that, the guarantee that no tobacco is consumer and none of the nasty chemicals it is treated with come into the picture at all? Essentially what we’re talking about Here is all of the benefits without any of the drawbacks. But what sort of modern-day miracle could we possibly by talking about Here? No, it’s not another patch or chewing gum-no, what we’re talking about at this point is the latest invention of all to rock the smoking world: the electronic cigarette.
The electronic cigarette (also referred to as the e-cigarette, or simply e-cig) is a marvel of modern technology that presents smokers with an attractive and convenient alternative to what they would otherwise be reaching for: smelly, dirty, polluting and altogether dangerous tobacco cigarettes (that will draw the ire of others around you if you light up in the wrong place!). Unlike ordinary cigarettes, E-Cigarettes can be taken and used in just about any circumstance without worrying about “raising a stink,” so to speak. That’s because there is nothing at all with which others around the e-cigarette user can be offended by: no nasty odors, no lingering cloud of smoke (which means no second-hand smoke inhalation, a major plus for all involved), no messy and disgusting waste to be dealt with (everyone knows the travesty of the spilt ashtray). All you’re left with is a discreet, compact and in almost all cases reusable/refillable nicotine delivery system.
So what exactly is an e-cigarette? Though there are different models and varieties, they pretty much all share certain basic characteristics: they are small devices manufactured to be roughly the same size as a cigarette or small cigar that, upon activation by the user (inhalation), intake air, heat it, and then pass through a final chamber where a vaporized nicotine solution is injected into the airflow, which then makes its way into the user’s mouth and lungs. All that in one compact little device, broken down into a few parts (four separate parts is the most common configuration).

The Advent of the E-Cigarette Part 2

At the “far end” of the e-cigarette, most models have incorporated an LED lighting mechanism that mimics the glow emitted by an actual tobacco cigarette or cigar when taking a puff. A clever addition that does more than just add a bit of aesthetic glitz to e-cigarette usage: as most smokers will acknowledge, a real addict becomes obsessed by almost all the aspects of the smoking process, and thus the inclusion of this detail in the e-cigarette design helps round out the simulation experience, further enticing smokers to pick up an e-cigarette instead of their old-faithful. The largest component comes next, and is comprised by the e-cigarette’s battery and circuitry compartment. This would be the portion corresponding to the main part of the cigarette shaft. Though some E-Cigarettes are discardable, most models come with rechargeable battery units (conveniently, manufacturers have made many available for recharge via either traditional wall plug-in or alternatively using a car lighter jack or even a USB charger). Next up (moving towards the user’s mouth, that is) is the heating piece, which in the industry and among those in the know is referred to as the atomizer. This piece takes the nicotine liquid solution contained in the mouthpiece (the final piece which we will get to next) and brings it up to the correct heat to be vaporized, so that it can be inhaled along with the air you take in along with your drag. Thus, obviously, the final piece is the mouthpiece itself, alternatively referred to as the Cartridge. This is the “juice box” of the e-cigarette, where the yearned for nicotine burst is housed. The nicotine solution cartridges that are inserted herein can either be refillable or can be replaceable; furthermore, the solutions can come in different concentrations of nicotine-a person stuck on really strong cigarettes can get their stiff fix if needs be, whereas an “ultralights” smoker can get their light fix. Additionally, these solutions are offered in a wide variety of Flavors, from very exotic and fruity concoctions to attempts at recreating the very flavor of a cigarette itself, with some narrowing in on the flavor of a particular brand. A lifelong Camel or Marlboro smoker (just to mention two common brands of cigarettes) can continue along with a familiar flavor, yet abandon all of the dangers of actual tobacco smoke. In the end, E-Cigarettes are a remarkable innovation that are winning over countless coverts every day as more and more people become aware of the tremendous benefits posed by this ingenious solution to the traditional smoker’s dilemma. So liberate yourself not only from the scourge of tobacco but furthermore from the stigma of being “the smoker” and enable yourself to follow your usual habits without worrying about getting berated by angry passersby or worse-your own colleagues or even your family! Quit Smoking Cigarettes – How to Stop Part 3

In part 1 and part 2 of this article series, we have discussed how the Reasons a person started smoking at an early age helped to build the psychological smoking mechanism. This mechanism begins to operate beyond conscious control because the smoker has long since forgotten why they started smoking. The first part of the process to remove smoking is to use special techniques to recall these early Reasons. After that is done, it is time to look at the Reasons a person continues to smoke. It’s Hard to Smoke Each Cigarette Smokers don’t consciously realize how hard it is to smoke. This is because the psychological smoking mechanism has faded into the Subconscious. It runs automatically each time a cigarette is smoked. The mind pushes all complex learned tasks into the subconscious. An example with which most people can relate is driving a car. When you first learn to drive, it is an almost overwhelming task. So many things to do, just to operate the automobile and then, you have to watch where you are going and what other drivers are doing! This is very stressful. However, eventually, all this fades into the Subconscious. It’s still just as hard, but it has become automatic so your consciousness isn’t overwhelmed. The same thing happens to the complex psychological smoking mechanism. Still the difficulty of smoking is evident. If you look at the face of a smoker, you can see the strain each time they take a drag. The face tenses and the eyes usually squint. It’s the same facial expression a weight lifter has trying to lift a heavy weight. Yet, at the conscious level, the smoker has pushed this aside; it is ignored. However it is there with each cigarette and during the course of the day, the more cigarettes smoked, the more tired the smoker becomes. This is why, when a smoker manages to stop, they feel that they have so much more energy! It’s not that they have more, it’s that they’re not wasting it fueling the psychological smoking mechanism. The Conscious Reaction to the Difficult Effort to Smoke Each Cigarette Although the conscious mind ignores the extreme effort to smoke, it still registers at some level. This causes the smoker to feel the need to justify why they smoke. The next part of the process is to identify these Reasons. Since these reasons are also faded into the Subconscious and not examined, special techniques have to be used to retrieve them. This is what The Unlearn Smoking Success System(tm) does in Part 2 of the program.Smokers Really Don’t Like to Smoke If you ask a smoker why they smoke, they will likely say, they like it. Yet, if you look at their behavior, it’s clear they don’t. For example, how many times have you seen a person smoking in their car in rainy weather, with the window rolled down to keep the cigarette away? With either the cigarette outside or the window cracked and the cigarette by the opening? If they liked it, why isn’t it in the closed car with them? The truth is, most smokers don’t like smoking but the psychological mechanism they created years ago compels them to smoke. To justify doing what they don’t really like, they rationalize benefits of smoking. How can they do this?By Association It has been known since the early days of Psychology that by pairing things together, they become associated. The more emotion behind it, the stronger the association. For example, suppose your parents drive a particular model of car. Each time you see this car, you think of your parents. Even though it is not your parents and not their car; you have the association in your mind. A smoker builds their catalog of rationalizations in the same way. Let’s examine a few of them.To Reduce a Feeling of Anxiety or Nervousness One of the rationalizations a smoker uses as to why they smoke is that it reduces a feeling of anxiety or nervousness. In other words, they claim it calms them down. But how can pulling hot, polluted smoke loaded with a stimulant deep into their sensitive lungs reduce anxiety or nervousness? The answer is simple: It DOESN’T! If you are a smoker and use this rationalization, it is an association from your WILL POWER suppressing the normal body defense reaction that allows you to smoke a cigarette. When you pull the smoke into your system, YOU are using your MIND to suppress or stop the normal coughing, choking and burning reaction to the hot polluted smoke from the cigarette entering your delicate lungs. You are WILLING yourself into a state of calm; calming down the body defense system. So rather than the cigarette calming you down, you are doing it yourself as a side-effect so you can tolerate the cigarette. It’s not the cigarette, it is the association. YOUR MIND is doing this because you have commanded it to do so. Do you realize you can be calm and relaxed without the cigarette? YOU CAN! The other reasons on the list that fall into this category are: to calm down when upset or angry, when feeling restless, as relaxation, to take a break from work, when feeling depressed, to celebrate something, and to think about a difficult problem. All these reasons, all these effects, are the result of you using your MIND to put a major calm on your body to tolerate the cigarette. You have given the cigarette benefits it didn’t earn. Benefits caused by your MIND!While Having Coffee Another reason people give for smoking has to do with eating or drinking. This again is a typical association that has nothing to do with the effects of smoking a cigarette. Doing a pleasurable thing makes you feel good; adding a cigarette brings in the super MIND over BODY calm that you have developed and enhances the good feeling. Once again, it is not the cigarette, this is the mechanism of body suppression that you have developed. Over time, rather than giving yourself credit for the results, you misdirect the credit to the cigarette. Other pleasurable associations are: When having a drink with friends, after a meal, after sex and when drinking beer, wine or liquor. All of these actions make the body feel good from the relaxing effect of alcohol, the good feeling of satisfying your hunger, or the release of sexual fulfillment. The cigarette has nothing to do with these things. It is a normal body reaction to fulfillment that is enhanced by the super calm YOUR MIND imposes over your body so you can tolerate the cigarette. It is YOU doing this, NOT the cigarette! Conclusion Examining objectively the reasons a person gives to continue to smoke is a necessary part of the process to dismantle the psychological smoking mechanism. Using psychological techniques, a person is able to identify and examine these reasons. When they do so, they find that they are giving the cigarette benefits it didn’t earn. With each benefit they remove, the psychological smoking mechanism becomes weaker and the effort to smoke becomes greater. If you don’t dismantle the psychological smoking mechanism, it will always be there urging you to smoke. This is why it is so hard to stop smoking just by quitting. This is why people quit and start smoking over and over. Get rid of the mechanism and you get rid of smoking. It’s a simple psychological fact. The next article in the series will discuss why smokers ignore the serious health consequences of smoking. (c) Copyright 2009, R. Michael Stone

Fire Safe Cigarettes and Your Health (Part 1)

4545372717 a31bdf97b4 m Fire Safe Cigarettes and Your Health (Part 1)
If you’re a smoker, you may have noticed that your cigarettes have started going out every couple of minutes and need to be relit.  You also may have noticed that your cigarettes now taste like copper.  These things are annoying to smokers, but the more serious side effects of fire Safe cigarettes should really be what we’re concerned about.

Every state in the US has now passed legislation making it mandatory for cigarettes to contain bands of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).  This makes cigarettes less of a fire hazard because if you’re not actively, and reportedly forcefully, inhaling the smoke as the fire reaches one of these bands, the cigarette will put itself out.  These cigarettes are called reduced ignition propensity (RIP) cigarettes, fire Safety cigarettes, or fire Safe cigarettes.

This legislation is expected to save anywhere from 700 to 1,000 lives a year.  Well, considering that cigarettes are already a tremendous risk to your health and a significant portion of deaths caused by cigarette fires each year are children, this legislation may not be such a bad thing.  However, if you are a smoker, then you should be aware of the additional health risks that are now added to the long laundry list of already established smoking health hazards.

When you research fire Safe cigarettes, you may notice that a lot of smokers are complaining of increased sickness.  Many have suddenly developed asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  Smokers also complain of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness that they associate with smoking fire Safe cigarettes.  However, cigarette sales have not changed at all since all of this started.  That tells us that everyone is complaining about their health and blaming it on these cigarettes, but no one is going to give it up.  We’d rather suffer and complain than face this terrible addiction.

The Harvard School of Public Health and the American Legacy Foundation did their research and found that non-fire safe cigarettes had the same toxic compounds as fire safe cigarettes.  So, why are so many people suddenly getting sick?  The main reason that people are suddenly noticing that cigarettes are making them sick is that when they smoke fire safe cigarettes, they have to deeply and forcefully inhale to keep the cigarette lit.  This does more immediate damage to the lungs and puts you at a much higher risk for lung Diseases.

There is no such thing as a “safe” cigarette.  All natural cigarettes, cigars that you just puff, menthols, lights, and herbal cigarettes all have the same health risks.  Electronic cigarettes have actually been found to be 1,400 times safer than conventional cigarettes.  Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to quit, because you are mentally and physically dependant on nicotine and the thousands of other chemicals that you put into your body every day.

People are addicted.  There’s no question about it.  The only way to fight this addiction is to get these chemicals out of our bodies, change our habits, and start actually fighting back against the tobacco companies that offer these harmful products to the public.

In “Part 2″ of this article series, we will discuss how to detoxify your body, get rid of the chemicals and nicotine, and start to repair your health.  Vitamin C supplements, like vitamin C powder, can help you to reclaim your health.  A lot of vitamins and supplements can help you to repair your cells, fight the side effects of addiction withdrawal, and lower the stress of quitting.

Electronic Cigarette Versus Regular Tobacco Cigarette Part One

After the public smoking ban in many parts of the world, pubs and bars have gone out of their way to cater for smokers, going to great lengths to provide “outdoor” smoking areas for those still craving thier cigarettes. After all, imagine the potential business that would be lost if these facilities were not provided.

As helpful as these facilities may be, there is still no denying that most smokers would relish a return to the bar to light up and avoid the bitter cold weather and pouring rain during the winter months especially. Whilst the non smoker rejoices in a smoke Free environment, the smoker curses his/her luck and wishes there was a better solution.

Could the electronic cigarette be once such solution? The e cig as its often referred to emits no smoke, only a vapour, which in most places is excluded from the smoking ban. In effect this means the smoker of an electronic cigarette is relatively Free to smoke in public places. There are even some airlines that permit the use of them on their Flights.

Non smoking friends and colleagues cannot gripe about breathing in second hand smoke or about their clothes smelling of stale cigarettes because it simply doesnt occur with the e cigarette. It appears that the electronic cigarette strikes the first blow in the battle of the cigarettes. Being able to smoke in public places gives it the first home run of the series.

Look out for more in this series soon. In the meantime, its electronic cigarette one – regular tobacco cigarette zero!

The Electronic Cigarette Story – Part 2 – Success and Controversy

Like many products before it, the electronic cigarette seems to have become stronger since the health organisations urged caution, claiming not enough testing had been done to prove them Safe

Whilst the organisations distanced themselves from the electronic cigarette, the sales have continued to grow and with the UK smoking ban now entering its second winter, the thought of standing outside the pub or office in the freezing temperatures seems to be enticing smokers to try something different.

Some pubs and bars are now even beginning to sell the electronic cigarette, realising they are becoming more popular, sensing a potential profit and that the punters are becoming more willing to try them, not simply as an alternative to a cigarette but as a genuine reason not to stand outside and freeze for a smoke.

During this time of credit crunch, many smokers who don’t actually want to quit smoking altogether but are looking for something more affordable are also turning to the electronic cigarette.

With a little shopping around, the prices for smoking the electronic cigarette are vastly less than their standard counterparts. One such Electronic Cigarette company provides a table to show the significance of the savings and it goes a little bit like this:

Approximate only

Electronic Cigarette:10 a day for one year = £ 122 • Real Cigarettes : 10 a day for one year = £1004

That equals a savings of more than £800 per year.

Electronic Cigarette:40 a day for one year = £ 487 • Real Cigarettes : 40 a day for one year = £3529

That is an incredible saving of more than £3000 per year.

With those figures in mind it is not difficult to see why the Electronic Cigarette is becoming a very attractive proposition.

There are apparently no carcinogens or toxins in an electronic cigarette, immediately making them a far healthier alternative. Nicotine and flavourings seem to be the only substances present in the device.

In summary, with none of the dangers of real cigarettes present, a massive cost reduction over real cigarettes and social benefits too, (no dangers of passive smoking and no restrictions under the smoking bans) the electronic cigarette still provides a nicotine flavour, revealing a very genuine alternative and potential aid for those who wish to quit smoking.

As the winter’s harsh realities sink in, at least there seems to be some hope on the horizon, not just for smokers but for their families and friends too. Perhaps if the electronic cigarette proves itself in the next few years we may be approaching a new era and a much less smoky, healthier one at that.

There is little doubting the recent success of the electronic cigarette. If it can deliver on its promises of being healthier than real cigarettes then many more smokers will surely turn to it in an attempt to quit smoking.
